Callum “Mundo” Smith

Callum “Mundo” Smith is a British professional boxer from Liverpool and a former super-middleweight world champion who has established himself as a leading contender in the light-heavyweight division. The youngest of Liverpool's four fighting Smith brothers, Smith progressed from British and European level to the top of the super-middleweight division. His breakthrough came in September 2018 when he stopped George Groves in the seventh round of the World Boxing Super Series final, winning the WBA super-middleweight world championship and The Ring title. Smith successfully defended his championship against Hassan N'Dam and John Ryder before meeting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in December 2020. Alvarez won by unanimous decision, handing Smith the first defeat of his professional career. Following the Alvarez loss, Smith moved to light heavyweight and produced stoppage victories over Lenin Castillo and Mathieu Bauderlique. Those performances established him as a serious contender at 175 pounds and ultimately earned him a world-title opportunity against Artur Beterbiev. Smith challenged Beterbiev for the unified WBC, IBF and WBO light-heavyweight championships in Quebec City in January 2024. Beterbiev stopped Smith in the seventh round, giving the Liverpudlian his second defeat of the year. Smith returned later that year with a stoppage victory over Carlos Galvan before facing unbeaten British rival Joshua Buatsi in Riyadh in February 2025. Smith produced one of the biggest victories of his light-heavyweight career, defeating Buatsi by unanimous decision and claiming the WBO Interim championship. A planned April 2026 defence against David Morrell was cancelled after Smith suffered an injury during training camp. Smith subsequently became the WBO mandatory challenger to unified champion Dmitry Bivol, and in August 2026 the WBO confirmed that the two camps had agreed terms for their championship fight. As of 23 September 2026, that contest has not taken place and therefore is not part of Smith's professional record.
