Carlos Adames Adames is a Dominican middleweight who has risen through regional ranks to claim the WBC full World Middleweight Championship. Billed as an orthodox fighter who regularly switches, Adames fights out of Las Vegas and brings power and physicality to the 160-pound division. His professional record stands at 25–1–1 with 18 stoppage wins. Adames turned pro in 2015 and quickly built a reputation for early fight-ending power. He opened his career with a sequence of stoppage victories and established himself on regional circuits in the Dominican Republic and the United States. In 2016 he began collecting regional honours at welterweight, winning the vacant WBA Fedecaribe welterweight title (RTD vs Kelly Figueroa) and the vacant WBA Fedelatin welterweight title (TKO vs Patrick López), later retaining the Fedelatin belt through 2016 and 2017 defenses. Stepping up in profile, Adames won the vacant WBC-NABF light middleweight title in October 2018 (TKO of Joshua Conley) and added the WBO-NABO light middleweight belt in April 2019 when he defeated Frank Galarza by TKO while retaining the WBC-NABF strap. That run included a notable points win over Patrick Day in June 2019, a victory that helped establish him as a rising force at 154 pounds. Adames did, however, suffer his sole professional defeat later that year, losing a 12-round unanimous decision to Patrick Teixeira in November 2019 in a fight for the vacant WBO interim super-welterweight (light middleweight) title. After regrouping, Adames returned to activity in 2021 with stoppage wins and then answered the call at middleweight by defeating Sergiy Derevyanchenko by majority decision in December 2021 in a WBC middleweight title eliminator. That victory set the stage for his move into the WBC title picture. In October 2022 Adames captured the vacant WBC interim middleweight title with a third-round knockout of Juan Macias Montiel, and he retained that interim crown in June 2023 with a ninth-round TKO of Julian Williams. On 2024-05-07 the WBC elevated Adames from interim to full World Middleweight Champion. He followed the elevation with a successful 12-round unanimous decision defense against Terrell Gausha on June 15, 2024. Subsequent WBC defenses in the title era include a split-draw retention against Hamzah Sheeraz (February 22, 2025) and a 12-round unanimous decision win over Austin “Ammo” Williams (March 21, 2026), keeping him active at the top of the division. Adames’s career blends regional title accumulation, a compact ledger of high-profile opponents and a heavy-handed finish rate.
