Dmitry Bivol

Dmitry Bivol is a Russian professional boxer and unified light-heavyweight world champion, recognised as one of the leading fighters of his generation at 175 pounds. Born in Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan on 18 December 1990, Bivol began boxing at six years old and developed an extensive amateur career before turning professional in November 2014. He rapidly progressed through the professional ranks, winning an interim WBA championship in just his seventh professional contest before eventually becoming the organisation's full world champion. Bivol established himself at world level through victories over fighters including Jean Pascal and Joe Smith Jr., but his international profile rose dramatically in May 2022 when he faced Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in Las Vegas. Bivol defeated Alvarez by unanimous decision over 12 rounds to retain his light-heavyweight championship. He followed that performance by handing the previously unbeaten Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez his first professional defeat later that year. In October 2024, Bivol met fellow unbeaten champion Artur Beterbiev for the undisputed light-heavyweight championship. Beterbiev won a closely contested majority decision, handing Bivol his first professional defeat. The rivals met again on 22 February 2025 in Riyadh. This time Bivol reversed the result, winning by majority decision and becoming undisputed light-heavyweight champion. Bivol subsequently vacated the WBC championship, leaving him with the WBA, IBF and WBO belts alongside The Ring championship. After back surgery and more than a year out of the ring, Bivol returned on 30 May 2026 against IBF mandatory challenger Michael Eifert in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Bivol dropped Eifert in the opening round and dominated the remainder of the contest, winning every round on all three scorecards, 120–107, to retain his championships and improve his professional record to 25–1.
