Joshua Buatsi

Joshua Buatsi is a British light-heavyweight boxer, Olympic bronze medallist and former WBO Interim world champion who has established himself among the leading contenders in the 175-pound division. Born in Accra, Ghana, on 14 March 1993 and raised in Croydon, London, Buatsi developed into one of Britain's leading amateur fighters. Representing Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won a bronze medal in the men's light-heavyweight competition before moving into the professional ranks. Buatsi quickly progressed as a professional, winning the WBA International light-heavyweight championship in only his seventh fight. He later captured the British title with a third-round stoppage of Liam Conroy and continued his unbeaten rise with victories over Marco Antonio Periban, Ryan Ford, Marko Calic and Ricards Bolotniks. Victories over Craig Richards and Pawel Stepien moved Buatsi closer to world level before he defeated unbeaten British rival Dan Azeez by unanimous decision in February 2024, winning the British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight championships. Buatsi then faced Willy Hutchinson at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. Buatsi dropped Hutchinson twice on his way to a split-decision victory, capturing the WBO Interim light-heavyweight championship and moving his professional record to 19–0. His unbeaten record ended on 22 February 2025 when he faced former super-middleweight world champion Callum Smith in Riyadh. Smith won by unanimous decision after 12 rounds, taking the WBO Interim championship and handing Buatsi his first professional defeat. Buatsi returned on 1 November 2025 against Zach Parker at Manchester's Co-op Live. He won a close majority decision over ten rounds, improving his professional record to 20–1. Buatsi remains firmly involved in the world light-heavyweight picture. He is currently scheduled for a rematch with Willy Hutchinson in Manchester on 7 November 2026, with the WBC title situation potentially raising the contest's significance.
