Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer and one of the defining fighters of his generation, having become an undisputed world champion at both cruiserweight and heavyweight. Born in Simferopol on 17 January 1987, Usyk built an outstanding amateur career before turning professional. His amateur achievements culminated at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where he won heavyweight gold for Ukraine. Usyk entered the professional ranks in 2013 and rapidly established himself among the world's leading cruiserweights. In 2016, he defeated Krzysztof Głowacki to win the WBO cruiserweight title before adding the WBC, WBA and IBF championships. His victory over Murat Gassiev in 2018 made him the undisputed cruiserweight champion and winner of the World Boxing Super Series. After conquering cruiserweight, Usyk moved to heavyweight. In September 2021 he defeated Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision to win the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles. He defeated Joshua again in their 2022 rematch before facing Tyson Fury in May 2024. Usyk's victory over Fury made him the undisputed heavyweight champion, unifying the four major sanctioning-body belts. He defeated Fury for a second time in December 2024 and then stopped Daniel Dubois in their July 2025 rematch, becoming undisputed heavyweight champion again. His unbeaten run continued in May 2026 with a stoppage victory over Rico Verhoeven. Usyk subsequently vacated his remaining WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight titles in June 2026, making it clear he was not retiring from boxing. Usyk's professional record stands at 25 wins from 25 fights, with 16 victories by knockout. His career has included victories over Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Tony Bellew, Murat Gassiev and Mairis Briedis. Combining exceptional movement, footwork, conditioning and technical ability, Usyk has achieved the rare distinction of becoming undisputed champion in two weight divisions and remains one of heavyweight boxing's most accomplished active fighters.
