Willy Hutchinson

Willy “The Hutch Train” Hutchinson is a Scottish professional boxer and former amateur world champion competing in the light-heavyweight division. Hutchinson enjoyed an outstanding amateur career before turning professional in 2017. His amateur achievements included becoming the first Scottish boxer to win a gold medal at the World Youth Championships, establishing him as one of Scotland's most highly regarded young prospects. Hutchinson began his professional career with 13 consecutive victories before facing Lennox Clarke for the vacant British and Commonwealth super-middleweight championships in March 2021. Clarke stopped Hutchinson in the fifth round, handing him his first professional defeat. Hutchinson subsequently rebuilt his career and moved firmly into the light-heavyweight picture. A run of victories included stoppages of Luca Spadaccini, Ezequiel Maderna and Martin Houben before he faced experienced contender Craig Richards in Riyadh in June 2024. Hutchinson produced an impressive performance to defeat Richards by unanimous decision and capture the vacant WBC Silver light-heavyweight title. That victory earned Hutchinson a major contest with Joshua Buatsi at Wembley Stadium on 21 September 2024. Hutchinson was dropped twice during the 12-round fight but reached the final bell, with Buatsi winning by split decision and claiming the WBO Interim light-heavyweight championship. Hutchinson returned to action in October 2025 and stopped Mark Jeffers in the seventh round in Glasgow. He followed that victory on 28 March 2026 by defeating previously unbeaten Ezra Taylor over ten rounds in Manchester, winning by unanimous decision and taking the WBO Global light-heavyweight title. The result improved Hutchinson's professional record to 20–2. Hutchinson is now scheduled to meet Buatsi for a second time on 7 November 2026 at Manchester's AO Arena, with the vacant interim WBC light-heavyweight championship at stake.
